Crystalaire Airport Is Private: Visiting Pilots Must Obtain Permission

CRYSTALAIRE, Los Angeles County — Visiting pilots should not treat Crystalaire Airport (46CN) as an unrestricted public-use landing field. The Soaring Academy’s published pilot services guide identifies it as a private airport.

The academy states that visiting pilots must obtain permission and furnish proof of aircraft insurance before flying in. It also directs all pilots to comply with airport standard operating procedures and federal aviation regulations.

What to do before a flight

Review current airport procedures and use the contact instructions on the airport operator’s or academy’s official page before attempting arrival. The Soaring Academy lists 661-944-1231 for inquiries about permission and insurance documentation. An airport’s appearance on an aviation map does not mean the general public may enter the runway or facilities.

Local residents should also recognize that an airport’s historic land-use designation does not establish that it is open for every aircraft type or operation today.
